Victoria Line Platform Humps and RVAR |

As part of London Undergrounds compliance to the Disability Discrimination Act programme and the Rail Vehicle Accessibility Regulations (RVAR) Livis has been working closely with LUL on the Victoria Line Platform Humps and various works in connection with RVAR. The main objective for these works was to make the platform interface with the train compliant for wheel chair access. Victoria Line Platform Humps The Victoria Line humps involved installing raised sections to each platform. These areas were on average 35 metres in length, 130mm in height and the full width of the platform. Each hump seats were raised and signage installed for passenger convenience. The humps were installed during weekend possessions and had to be meticulously planned and executed to avoid overruns to the possessions. Due to the nature and risk involved with delivering these works, Livis ensured that our key skilled workers were involved and that senior management were on site during each possession. Livis have successfully installed humps to 15 platforms on the Victoria Line at Oxford Circus, Victoria, Kings Cross, Green Park, Warren Street, Brixton and Seven Sisters. RVAR Project The RVAR project involved various scopes of work ranging from the repositioning of the nosing/coping stones to fully raising areas of the platform. Each platform RVAR (hump) involved steel strengthening work to the platform edge wall, new nosing/coping stones and tactiles and replacing the existing platform surface including manhole covers and drainage. The RVAR area can range from approximately 13 to 30 metres long and 10 to 120mm in height. Works were carried out during engineering hours and weekend possessions. To date Livis have successfully installed 25 RVAR humps with all areas of delivery achieved to a high standard.
