Crossrail Surveys

Sites: Royal Oak Portal, Connaught Tunnel & Paddington

crossrail-surveys-image0Livis have undertaken Core Sampling and Trial Pits for Crossrail on Phases 1 & 2.

Core holes at least 100mm diameter, using coring equipment capable of drilling core holes of at least 4m deep. Core areas CAT scanned by a trained operative to ensure services were not disturbed. All core holes were fully backfilled.

Horizontal cores, using temporary shuttering to prevent slumping and discharge of the concrete. Shuttering not protruding thus maintaining the same clearance envelope to the trains.

Summary reports were produced containing full details of the survey works carried out on completion of the survey, which includes,

  • Photographic record of all core holes and core samples using a suitable scale and colour chart.
  • The level and location of all core holes surveyed presented on a location plan with sections dimensioned and fully annotated.
  • Depth and extent of the retaining wall foundations (including fully dimensioned drawings and sketches based on the information gathered from the coring).
  • The location, description and any additional comments as deemed necessary, of any obstructions exposed or encountered (i.e. buried services, embedded steelwork in brickwork, etc).
  • The length, diameter and orientation of all core samples drilled.
  • The presence of water seepage and / or water egress from core holes.
  • The description and identification of all core samples taken incorporating any test results.
