The Design brief was to match the existing buildings on the treatment site which involved the sourcing of suitable materials and the construction of test panels prior to starting work. Due to the clients requirements for longevity of design use it was decided to utilise a traditional RC slab and column construction. Adherence to the contract programme was successfully maintained in order to coordinate with the clients overall critical path programme. The works were further complicated by a late move building footprint which meant that parts of the external skin were “tight” to existing structures. Once the construction of the columns and blast walls was complete the roof slab was undertaken using a Peri false-work design. Setting out and accuracy were the by-words for the brickwork as the structural openings and sizes were dictated by the M&E design. It was also critical to maintain high standards in the block-work as internally the intention was to decorate straight onto the blocks. The roof construction comprised a 4º pitched frame covered in Marine ply and weathered with Kemper System Roof Covering which gave the best possible lifespan. The other aspect of the works undertaken was the supply and fitting of Fire and LPC 4 standard Security doors internally and externally.
