Our people

We recognise that the nature of the work that we carry out requires strong management structure and leadership skills.

We invest in our people and their continuous development, recognising the important role they play in delivering high quality standards within a safety-critical environment. This is achieved by the development of our own training programmes and by ensuring that skills are kept up to date.

We have a dedicated training co-ordinator who is responsible for ensuring that operatives have been trained to the required level of competence and that they are aware of the requirements to enable them to carry out their tasks safely and without injury.

Andy and John jointly formed Livis Limited in 1996. They had previously worked in similar environments within the construction industry gaining the expertise and knowledge to enable them to grow and establish a sustainable business.

Their forward thinking approach has led to Livis being able to provide new innovations and services to the industry.

Jeff Pummell - Company Secretary

Jeff has been part of the board since Livis was formed in 1996.  He qualified and worked as a Mechanical Engineer, diversifying into Project Management for London Underground.

As Company Secretary Jeff has financial and legal responsibility keeping up to date with Company progress and plans for the future.  His experience and expertise is a great asset providing sound advice for the direction of the business.

Barry Coulson-Smith AssocRICS  - Head of Commerical Operations

Barry joined Livis at the beginning of 2002 as a Surveyor.  Barry has over 22 years experience within the construction/civils industry including Site Management, Quantity Surveying, Estimating, Design, Project Management and Commercial Management.

Since joining Livis Barry has been involved with the development of the Commercial function and through experience, determination and a programmed mentoring process has developed into a senior member of the team controlling the Surveying, Estimating department. 

Lynn Watts - Head of Company Operations

Lynn joined Livis in 2002.  Lynn’s diverse experience primarily lies in Human Resources and Management Systems in sectors such as defence, medical, audio visual, construction and rail.

Through an internal development program Lynn has developed her health, safety and environmental knowledge and has achieved her NEBOSH in construction certificate.

Since joining Livis Lynn has been involved in all aspects of the business and has been responsible for the strategic level for human resources, quality assurance, health safety and environmental management plus general business administration, supporting all personnel through their development and career paths.   

 Justine Lear ACMA - Head of Finance

Justine joined Livis in February 2009 as Financial Controller; Justine studied Business and Finance at Sheffield before moving on to study Accountancy at Newcastle upon Tyne. She qualified and became an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

Prior to joining Livis Justine worked in the manufacturing industry as Financial Controller.  The role involved not only the financial management of an SME under UK GAAP but also head office and divisional reporting under IFRS.

Since joining Livis, Justine has been responsible for developing and strengthening the financial reporting function. Working closely with all sectors of the business she has implemented robust financial procedures for both historical reporting and forecasting.     

Rob Pooley - Head of Project Delivery

Rob joined Livis in July 2005. Rob's previous experience revolved around the constrution industry working as a Project Manager for a shop fitting company and as a Senior Project Manager for an Asset Management company.

His experience and skills complement our services, increasing the level of attention to detail and support we can offer to our client management teams.

Since joining Livis Rob has progressed from Project Manager to Head of Project Delivery and has been involved in all aspects of developing the site management and project management teams.   

Karen O'Brien AssocCIPD, MCMI - Human Resource Manager

Karen joined Livis in 2004.  Karen was employed to take on the task of a generalist human resources and operations role.

Having previously worked in similar roles within similar companies Karen quickly developed into a managerial role. Since starting with the business she went on day release to college to study for her Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) qualification which was achieved in 2010. As part of this qualification Karen also completed CMI Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership.

Karen is responsible at operational level for human resources which includes recruitment and selection, learning and development, providing HR advice and general business administration.  Additionally she has other valuable skills that have been an asset to the business such as technical, IT and report writing.

Kim Dowden MRICS - Senior Estimator

Kim joined Livis in 2009 as Senior Estimator bringing with him a wealth of experience as a Quantity Surveyor in all disciplines at main contractor status.  His commercial expertise, excellent technical skills, logical and analytical approach has already proved to be a great asset to Livis.

Kim is responsible for overseeing the estimating function within Livis controlling a team of Estimators and ensuring that bids and tendering processes meet industry and client standards.
